Three BNSF units sitting at the Great Falls, MT engine facilities on March 16, 2008. I knew when I saw them that this was coal train power, and sure enough I was right. At least two unit coal trains were rerouted through Great Falls because of derailment on the MRL five miles east of Bozeman on March 15th.

Sitting here, basking in the morning sun are BNSF SD75I 8300 in proud Warbonnet paint, ES44AC 6231 in H3 paint, and SD70MAC 9571 in Executive Green & Cream. 6231 & 9571 are the same two from my EMD vs. GE shot I posted yesterday.

BSNF needs thes 3 colors? They've got the Santa Fe colors there. :)
The green and tan one looks familiar, but I dunno what RR they used to belong to.

You're making me dizzy!
how much are one of those?
The General Electric ES44AC (the orange one in the middle) cost BNSF $1.88 million new just a couple of years ago. The other two are several years older and no longer in production, but a used one would probably cost about $500,000 to $650,000.

The Warbonnet red & silver is a former Santa Fe paint scheme, although that particular engine was delivered after Santa Fe and Burlington Northern merged to form BNSF in 1996. The green & cream engine is a former Burlington Northern unit. That was BN's last paint scheme before the merger. The engine in the middle is the current (and worst) BNSF paint scheme, just introduced a little over a year ago.

Why exactly did they call the green and cream the Executive Scheme?

Because it was first used on two E9s that were rebuilt and repainted specifically to haul the executives of the company around on a special train.

I was trying to figure out how many BNSF paint schemes are out there today. I came up with:
H1
H2
H3
Executive
Warbonnet
Bluebonnet
Cascade green & black (Not sure how many variations of this one)

What did the warbonnet do to have the right to remain so clean? Most of the warbonnets I see these days (here on DA, I've never seen one in real life due to living a few thousand kilometers away) are horribly dirty, which is a pity because of all paint schemes BNSF has, it's the one I like best.
