Description

Scanned from a 35mm print I shot at Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site, near Williston, ND, in 1999. This was during one of our annual living history events. From left to right are:
Ken Woody - Ken is good friend of mine. He is Iroquois by birth, but is dressed in the traditional outfit of a Mandan warrior. If you are ever at the Little Bighorn National Battlefield in Montana you might see him, as he is Chief Ranger there.

Rueben Fasthorse - I've met Rueben three or four times, and he's a great guy. He's a professional storyteller, historian, flute player and craftsman. He literally travels the world to teach others about his culture - the Lakota.

Larry Belitz - I've only met Larry once, and he's a really nice guy. Larry is Caucasian by birth but was adopted by the Lakota because of his knowledge and concern for their culture. He is very knowledgable in traditional Lakota and other Plains Indian material culture. Larry was a historical consultant on the movie Dances with Wolves and made a large number of the reproduction items you see in the movie - dresses, shields, shirts, etc.

Chris "Badger" Floyd - Badger is a great friend of mine. You may remember him from this shot. He is White River Ojibwa by birth, but is here dressed in the traditional garb of a Plains Ojibwa warrior.

Wow, it's curious that three out of four don't look native american at all. Beautiful history, though, and I want those clothes  Hope this culture doesn't die.
