The female trying to keep cool heard me move and suddenly she was much more alert, trying to figure out where I was. She eventually spotted me, but I was far enough away from her that she wasn't concerned and went back to her rest.
Our marmots are the "Yellow-bellied Marmot", also known as Rockchucks. They are very closely related to the Woodchucks or Groundhogs of Eastern North America.
