Description

"June 1918"

That's the worn inscription carved into the cliff face nearly a century ago. No idea who carved their mark here nor their significance for carving that date. June 1918 was when the US won several significant battles during World War I. Was this some recognition of those victories? Or was this some recognition of Jeanette Rankin, Montana Representative who was opposed to the US entering the war? Or was it just that some traveler passed by here in June 1918?

The answer is lost in the mists of time.

Cool, roughly were abouts is this, Great Falls area? FYI: Over near Bozeman, next to Hylite Resivior there is a 1 mile hike to History Rock. It is a large sandstone surface riddled with dates going as far back as 100 years.

That is a cool pic, did you find it, or was it marked?
