Ponokomita is the Blackfoot word for Horse. The literal translation of the word is "Elk-Dog", because horses were the size of an Elk and did the work of a Dog (before the horse came, dogs were the only beast of burden for North American Indian people). In fact, the word for horse in many tribal languages translates as "Elk-Dog".
There are several wild horses on the DNRC property bordering the park and they occasionally get through the fence and onto park property. This evening when I walked out to the parking lot after locking up the visitor's center I found three of them right next to the parking lot. They were completely unconcerned with my presence. I told them they didn't belong there, but they just snorted and shook their heads.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
